Toulouse Cricket Club

Bringing cricket to Haute-Garonne

Player profiles are listed with the current TCC committee followed by squad players (in alphabetical order).

Name : Jeff Burridge

Nickname : El Presidente / Jeffers

Place of Birth : Fareham

Date of Birth : 29th August 1962

Football Club : Southampton

Hobbies : Pantomime & poker

Carbon Footprint : 2.22 planets ; 9.09 tonnes per annum

Cricket Profile : Fancied a game of cricket in Toulouse and somehow ended up being Chairman.  If he could spend as much time batting as he does replying to cricket emails he’d be playing for England.  Despite the general mirth that surrounds most of his play and his svelt like figure, his deceptive slower balls occasionally manage to bamboozle the opposition, some of whom last season were almost old enough to have hairy armpits.  Recent highlights: before 2006 - none; 2006 got a "6"; 2007 didn't score a "6".

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Flapjacks with raisins, preferably no chocolate topping

Name : Neil Warren

Nickname : Bunny / Skippy

Place of Birth : Scarborough

Date of Birth : 14th May 1962

Football Club : Doncaster Rovers

Hobbies : Meteorology (weather stuff)

Carbon Footprint : 3.44 planets ; 15.95 tonnes per annum ; 6.2 hectares

Cricket Profile : Club captain again this season thanks to lack of a vote at the AGM. An all rounder like Tony Greig but shorter with less ability. Aggressive leg-side only batting – only a few more shots than Father Ted. Outswing medium pace bowler with tendancy not to make the ball bounce. Occasional plier of the dying art of leg spin – again not many bounce & fewer turn. Likely to ensure the art dies completely. Endangered the life of boules players last season.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Fairy Cakes (lemon)

Name : Andy Gordon

Nickname : Shady(?) or the Cat (!)

Place of Birth : Changi, Singapore and a special fried rice

Date of Birth : 28th June 1965

Football Club : Don’t play professionally any more, but support West Ham (the quality Championship side)

Hobbies : Cricket, notice nobody else admits it!

Cricket Profile : Have played cricket irregularly for many years, with my first career peaking whilst playing for Stothart and Pitt seconds. Today have aspirations to play for France (only kidding). Was once described as a fielding batsman, not sure I could claim either these days. Favourite shot the straight drive, although I never played one, most common shot played aimed towards “cow corner”.  In the field, I am fighting for a place behind the sticks, with healthy competition for that spot in the club at the moment (there are four of us, sometimes all playing at once). When not in this position, I am happy to lounge at cover or in the slips with Father Ted.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item :  A fine Claret

Name : Paul Nash

Nickname : Nasher / Slash

Place of Birth : Bristol

Date of Birth : 30 November 1964

Football Club : Bristol City

Hobbies : Art, Golf & Cinema

Carbon Footprint : 2.69 planets ; 11.33 tonnes per annum

Cricket Profile : Don’t have one, played for the school team and competed with their local village team which always seems to have an affiliation with the local boozer. The ashes win played a significant part in re-igniting his passion for the game - and the thought of 35-degree summers with no cancellations due to rain. He likes to think of himself as a demon bowler with the capability to swing it both ways. The truth is he ambles down and swings a few wides! A prolific batmans last year who has a great chance of improving his averages next year (Could do better). Only really part of the team due to DIY skills and capability to organise fixtures.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Captains home made scones, he bakes them with his only fair hands

Name : Derek Blackham

Nickname :  DB/ Delboy (obviously)/ Archie.

Place of Birth : Bushey/Watford

Date of Birth : 13th June 1964

Football Club : York City

Hobbies : Renovating my house, My Morris Minor.

Cricket Profile :  A typical all rounder but need some more batting, bowling and fielding practise!. I have a masochistic tendency to stand at silly mid on! The blurred memory of English Pub cricket made me realise that Cricket in the South of France had the potential to be a lot of fun. My blurred memory of last season makes me realise that it was. ex- Leverstock green CC Colts (80-81) ex Leverstock Green CC 2nd 11 (81-83), ex Flamstead CC 1st11 (83-86)

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Branston pickle with anything.

Name : Brad Pitt (aka Nick Brooks)

Nickname : Gobby, Lardy, Knob (big)

Place of Birth : The Mighty Rugby (real rugby) playing town of LEIGH, LANCASHIRE (la, la la)

Date of Birth : 22 November 1962 (MUCH younger than the above old farts)

Football Club : The ONE and ONLY Manchester CITY

Hobbies : Ferret wrestling, Breast Fondling, Rawk music and Cricket

Cricket Profile : I’m reet good. From the same area as Freddie, only he’s not as good. Very sure of my abilities, shame I become shite once on the field of play. Can bat and bowl (allegedly) and had the fastest 50 in the South West Lancs Cricket league in 1979, when a handsome 16 year old, I got 64 of ‘about’ 20 balls, with ‘about’ 6 sixes, one bringing up my 50. I lost 3 of their balls as well, which made me smile. Having just bought brand new boots, I aim to ramp up my bowling speed to around 28.5 kph.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : A few beers (can’t be arsed with egg butties and tea – it’s for wimmin)

Name : Philippe FERMANEL

Nickname : “vive la France!”

Place of Birth : Rouen

Date of Birth : 27 août 1963

Football Club :

Hobbies : History/PC Games/snorkelling

Cricket Profile :  A man with no sense of shame. Despite being very French he still won Player of the Year in 2006 and therefore humiliated all the English players who have cricket in their blood. Sadly he deserved the award. A nippy medium pace bowler who seams it both ways and has a classic action. Batting also stylish but as yet not quite so successful. Learnt his cricket in Paris, but no-one knows why, whilst there he played for Paris University CC and participated in European cricket competitions in Durham (1992), Corfu (1995), Germany (1993), and Berlin (1998- finalist). Much too good for us.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item :  Cheddar cheese sandwiches (English cheese is far better than French muck)

Name : Kevin Goddard

Nickname : The Chin / Jimmy Hill / Kev Moon

Place of Birth : Lowestoft

Date of Birth : 21st May 1967

Football Club : Norwich City

Hobbies : Part time rock star, Ballroom dancing

Cricket Profile : Started his wicket-keeping career (and cricket for that matter) in Spring 2006, with some spectacular blocks with everything except his hands. Has produced some fantastic results in the practice sessions, mainly with his push-along lawn mower. His main goals for the 2007 season are to score his first ever run for TCC, avoid facial injuries wherever possible and trying to understand what the hell the captain means when he shouts “Silly Mid-Off”, “Extra Cover” and “Mid-Wicket” (which normally occurs in the changing area after the game).

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Lightly grilled sardines on a bed of rocket and thinly sliced Parmesan, topped with a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil

Name : Martin Hinton

Nickname :  2-fags

Place of Birth : St Asaph, UK

Date of Birth : 5th October 1965

Football Club :

Hobbies : .

Cricket Profile :  Couldn't be ar5ed to send his profile, but we had to share his picture.

Name : Andy Knee

Nickname :  Genou, Beefy, Bigtruck (from my football days but could now be Juggernaut!)

Place of Birth :  Harpenden (posh town near Luton)

Date of Birth : 22nd February 1967

Football Club : United (well, I was born in London area!) and Migs (Luton Town)

Hobbies :  Abusing Brooksie (Lardy – you have robbed me of one catch on last season’s figures!) , playing and watching sport, England beating France at anything, gigging and not DIY

Cricket Profile : Very effective all-rounder (the only real one in TCC). Left-handed Goweresque batsman and lethal right-armed swinger (of ball). Bore opponents into rash strokes and wickets. The best still to come! Not very illustrious cricketing background apart from hat-trick once in local park game with mates. Left match kit in garage on purpose to avoid being kit man again.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item :  whole hamper

Name : Paul Lawrie (not the golfer)

Nickname : FatBloke

Place of Birth : Edinburgh

Date of Birth : 03/02/68

Football Club : Hibs (little known fact: 1st British team to play in Europe)

Hobbies : Eating, drinking, sports (on the tele)

Cricket Profile : Cricket? - I thought it was Croquet. Stylish bat with one slight flaw - does not score any runs.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : A cake (whole).

Name : Mathieu Raboisson

Nickname : 4-puds or The Rabi

Place of Birth : Toulouse

Date of Birth : May 23rd 1979 . ... it is said that Jesus was born in 1979 BM (Before Mat!)

Football Club : Not a big football fan, I'm more into Rugby ... but I'll support Toulouse FC this season ! Champions' league !!!

Hobbies : Rugby, music, movies ... like eveyrone !!! Food, food, food, food, food ...

Cricket Profile : Tall-not-good-medium-slow-bowler-hard-hitting-batsman french beginner !!! discovered cricket in Scotland (Dumfries), where I played my first game after 2 practices, and managed to score 7 runs without being taught how to bat ... retired after such a great performance, until glory needed to be written again, and joined the team thanks to Joel T ... I'm now an all-around-no-too good player, enjoying fielding a lot ... a bit scared when it comes to batting (I always think the bowler is Glenn McGrath, scares the s**t out of me!) ... but I'm getting better !!! on our last game, managed to score 23 runs (hitting 6 and 4s) and to get a wicket in 1 over !!! (have to mention I bowled 3 wides in that over ...) ... increasing my running score by 800% in 1 game ! ...

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : A cup of tea, of course ! and whatever is on the table !...

Name : Tony Wardle

Nickname :  Baggie, Tipster, T Dubya

Place of Birth :  Solihull

Date of Birth :  2 April 1960 (not born a fool but made up for it since!)

Football Club : West Bromwich Albion

Hobbies :  Sports from the couch.

Carbon Footprint : 2.83 planets ; 11.09 tonnes per annum

Cricket Profile :  A has been opening bowler now limited to trundling medium (slow!) balls that have been known to occasionally swing and even turn off the pitch, but generally these are regarded as freak events associated with the greenhouse effect!   Was fined by previous club because his bowling was too boring and for wearing a “scrambled egg” jumper after the game.  Batting is limited to straight-ish drives and the fine art of nurdling, also has the unerring ability to pull a multitude of muscles(?) when fielding.  Nicknamed the ‘tipster’ as a result of an inane desire to spread the good word that is cricket by coaching opponents before, during and if they’re still listening after the game.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item :  Nice cup of tea and of course some watercress to go with the jumper!

Name : Richard Wardle

Nickname : Rich, Mole

Place of Birth : Edgbaston

Date of Birth : 7 Aug 1990

Football Club : Northampton Town

Hobbies : Cricket, Football, Rugby, Sport in General, computer games

Cricket Profile : Cricketing skills are limited primarily by hereditary factors, although fortunately most things skip a generation which means I take after my grandfather batting and keeping wicket, my father made his mark when he broke my finger, crushing the bone, in the nets when I was only 12. To be fair he did admit it was the first time he'd ever pitched a ball on the seam! He also managed to limit my batting last year by his umpiring decisions ....? At the age of 3 I was known as a spin demon, bowling perfect googlies to my father. This spin is now very rarely seen and last year my bowling consisted of 3 overs of slow straight balls, eventually getting my man, a seven year old, with the last ball. Most memorable shot toe ending a straight drive for 6.

Wicket-keeper / Batsmen / Fielder looking for adoption!

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : An overflowing plate, preferably two! And a nice cream cake

As the saying goes, "Too many cooks save nine" and it couldn't be truer living in Toulouse where we have a very fluid membership. Those featured below have all played their part during their time in Toulouse.

Football Club : None, it’s a queers game

Hobbies : Bikes with and without engines.

Carbon Footprint : 4.08 planets

Date of Birth : 6 November 1971

Football Club : Racing Club Warwick FC

Hobbies : Sport and drinking, preferably at the same time. Spotting typos. Duvet tog values. Jam.

Cricket Profile : Selected for Warwickshire Under 12s in 1983 as a classical opening batsman and fiery opening bowler. Cricketing career has been in freefall ever since, despite having an international batting average in three figures (thanks to one swashbuckling innings of 102 against Greece 2nd XI in 1994, sadly and cruelly refused full ODI status by the ICC). Repertoire of strokes now limited to the “V” between fine leg and cow corner. Clinically allergic to running quick singles or “turning ones into twos”.  Bowling now confined to when we’re looking for a quick declaration or are taking pity on the batting side. Member of MCC.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Will eat anything and, if given the chance, everything.

Name : Joel Thomas

Nickname : John

Place of Birth : Bury St Edmunds

Date of Birth : 15th May 1986

Football Club : Tottenham Hotspur

Hobbies : Rugby, football, cricket, snowboarding and lawnmower racing.

Cricket Profile : Cricket for me all began at Chappel and Wakes Colne Cricket Club in Essex. In the summer of 2006 I secured a free transfer to Toulouse with the expectation of a long, hot and highly enjoyable cricketing summer. It didn’t disappoint and they even allowed me to play for another year. As far as cricketing ability goes, you could say ‘an all rounder who has sadly been forced into an early retirement from bowling’ due to injury and the insistence of scorers that his name is John. As a result, I now prefer pretending to bat since I can write the name in the book myself. Fielding is most enjoyed from covers or deep mid wicket.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Chicken Curry sandwiches are always a treat.

Name : Peter Reddel

Nickname : Hey You

Place of Birth : Sinney

Date of Birth : 1942 (That’s enough)

Football Club : Geelong Cats (Aussie Rules…OK)

Hobbies : Squash, panto, wine appreciation

Cricket Profile : Bowled my first leggie at Prep school in 1952, before Shaney was even a gleam in his father’s eye.  Found the amazingly unpredictable Toulouse pitches to my liking. Going home to see the Ashes urn later this year.

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Undecided between French Tarts and Honey Rolls

Football Club : Rugby - Oloron Sainte Marie, Section Paloise, Mazamet, Stade Toulousain, Pumas...

Hobbies : Baseball, Pelote Basque, arts, drinking water, eating flowers, dancing with my hula-hoop...

Cricket Profile : Oh la la la la mais c'est pas possible...

Favourite Cricket Tea Item : Foie gras and Sauterne

...And other potential players?

Over the closed season we have been busy in the transfer market snapping up people we are sure will take this club to places it has never been before. We welcome our new members...

Jock the Strap joins us from Strangeways CC.  We're not sure yet what he will add to our style of play but are convinced he will ruffle a few feathers.

"Tache" is not as normal as he may appear. Wind him up and watch him fly at the opposition - it can really be quite scarey.

Never one to poo-poo advances in modern technology, "Radiation Man" offers us a new dimension.  Who needs Prozone when we can tap into his radioactive brain!

OK, so 'Tubby' might not be our everyday automatic pick for opening bowler but, oh boy, does he leave the changing rooms spotless or what!

Preparing for match has always been an intense experience for "Crotchy" who we managed to sign on deadline day. The hardest job was to convince him that it would be healthier for him to come out of his cellar and leave his manacles and array of butchers knives locked up whilst training.
